We ethically retrain and rehome retired standardbred racehorses.

Every year hundreds of standardbred racehorses retire from racing, many do not have the chance to enjoy a life after racing, at Stable to Stirrup we are committed to changing this. Every ex-racehorse deserves a chance for a life after racing.

Standardbreds are sociable and reliable horses that deserve a full and happy life after racing. They are willing to please and able to provide years of joy and competitive endeavour long after they’ve left the racetrack.

For their health and wellbeing horses constantly need hay, rugs and pasture, as well as farrier and veterinary care, regardless of where they are in their life cycles. Retired racehorses often require a period of rest before they can enter a retraining programme. It all costs money.

We actively fundraise in the community through grant applications and special events. Funds received play a critical role in providing primary healthcare for the standardbreds we accept for retraining and rehoming.

We were recently awarded Harness Racing New Zealand’s 2022 Outstanding Contribution to Life After Racing. This is an incredible honour and shows the importance of the work that we do.

We desperately need financial support. No amount is too small, every little bit helps, so please support us in anyway you can.
